Addenbrookes to Code with ExtraMed
19 March 2008
Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge has selected Extramed's Outpatient Clinical Coding System to meet its Clinical Coding needs, joining existing users of the system at Bedford Hospital.
The Out-Patient Clinical Coding System (OCC) is specifically designed to deliver improved quality of information from outpatient clinics. The application facilitates the capture of any coding structures (such as ICD10 and OPCS4) without requiring specialist coding knowledge - data which is imperative for the accurate and timely reporting required for Payment By Results (PBR) and Practice Based Commisssioning (PBC) level activity. ExtraMed's OCC has been specifically built to address the needs of Clinicians, Coding Managers and Technicians, Information Managers and ultimately Finance Directors in a Trust. The application will integrate with Addenbrooke's Patient Administration System (PAS) to aggregate only clinical detail relevant information to the point of care; Clinic Appointments Schedule, Names and Clinic type. Returning co-morbid and any alert details will improve the collection of associated data. At Addenbrooke's the OCC will return clinically coded activity in ICD10 & OPCS4 codes into the PAS. Additionally the system has the flexibility to allow the capture of data on High Tariff medications and any other "off plan" types of information. The system will allow increased and more adaptable reporting on coding activity. This improves the level and quality of data captured for PBR purposes by moving the point of capture as close as possible to the point of creation minimising data re-entry activities.
